Sisters Vessels IV & V (2005)

These two coil-built vessels stand together as a study in contrast and kinship. Both are built by hand, coil by coil, and both carry the marks of that process openly – the horizontal ridges running the full height of each piece, a record of time and touch.

The first is rounded and earthbound, its full body tapering to a narrow neck in a form that echoes ancient storage vessels across cultures. Oxide treatments burn and bleed across the surface during firing, creating a landscape of ochre, charcoal and shadow, scored through with incised marks that add yet another layer of texture and depth.

The second reaches upward in a bold, flaring form, saturated in deep cobalt. The glaze pools in the crevices between coils and intensifies at the edges, transforming the same handbuilt texture into something luminous and almost architectural.

Same hands. Same technique. Two entirely different worlds; and yet, unmistakably, sisters.
